I have an upcoming girls-weekend-away to Brighton and over a cuppa the other day with one of the girls, I was asked the essential question, “what are you going to wear?”My immediate answer came easy: a pleated midi skirt.
On reflection, this surprised me as for the last few years, my go-to item has been a jumpsuit. I haven’t bought a jumpsuit in a long while and they don’t appear on my shopping horizon. I am sure the trend is not dead, but for me, the pleated midi skirt has gazumped the jumpsuit in terms of an easy, stylish item to wear that can be dressed up or down.
The Brighton weekend will involve brunching, shopping, cocktails and dancing… and maybe a long lunch that rolls on to evening (watch out Brighton!!) So a pleated midi is a versatile item to pack as I can wear it in the day with flats and a T, or in the evening with heels and a statement top.
I have two pleated midi skirts in my wardrobe to choose from, both metallic. Skirts have never featured so prominently in my wardrobe as now. I am sure it is not because I am dressing more femininely, but the way to wear skirts has become more edgy and less frou frou.
The pleated midi has been around for a good while now, but they are currently everywhere in gorgeous textures and colours for the new season. Have you got one yet? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts… please leave a comment at the end of the post.
