I first wrote a post on Shackets back in 2017 when the word was a relative newcomer in fashion vernacular. Fast-forward 3 years and the hybrid shirt-jacket is not only part of everyday fashion speak, it’s one the most popular trends of the season.
And no wonder. In 2020 the appetite for clothes that are both practical and stylish has never been higher. A shacket looks like an oversized shirt, but provides the warmth and layering options of a jacket. It’s a multi-purpose piece that provides the versatility that we all demand from our clothing these days.
As we move into Winter, the transitional shackets in fabrics like cotton drill have made way for warmer materials such as wool, shearling, corduroy, leather and faux leather. They can be worn as an outer layer over chunky knits or layered under overcoats.
Multi-function is key and the shacket goes with everything from your basic jeans & sweatshirt outfit, to belted over your favourite dress, or buttoned up over smart leather trousers and boots.
As shackets have grown in popularity, the style options have increased too. In terms of colour you can opt for classic neutrals, wintry pastel shades or lumberjack plaids. Lengths vary too with this year seeing the introduction of longer length shackets, which look great worn loose or belted.
If you are on the petite scale and worry about this oversized piece swamping you, then take a look at the children’s ranges as you may find that teen sizes fit your proportions well.
Here’s some shopping ideas:
PLAID
FAUX LEATHER
NEUTRAL
I bought mine from Bershka last year and I have worn it so much!
Do let me know your thoughts about the shacket!
