It’s wedding season, but I haven’t been to a wedding in a long time. I fall into that age category where we are (not impatiently, I hasten to add) waiting for the next generation to tie the knot. But I have very fond memories of the 2-5 years when you couldn’t move for nuptials as both me and my peer group moved into the next chapters of our lives.
But I do love a wedding and if you are lucky enough to have one (or two) on your social calendar this year, here’s some outfit inspiration that will have you covered for the wedding season.
A lot of thought and planning goes into what to wear to a wedding; and rightly so! It’s a chance for everyone to get dressed up and look their best. You’ll want to fondly look back at wedding pics (and not cringe); feel confident when catching up with extended friends and family; plus feel comfortable enough to throw some shapes on the dance floor!
Because it’s such an important day, navigating what to wear isn’t always easy. So here’s a few pointers when choosing your special outfit…
I don’t need to tell you that the first thing you need to know is the style of wedding and wedding venue. Is there a dress code? It wouldn’t be appropriate (but might be highly amusing to other guests) if you arrive dressed in ‘black tie’ regalia to a Barn Dance-style celebration and visa-versa!!!
I’m helping several clients right now with wedding-guest outfits and my advice is always to select something that doesn’t veer too far from your usual style. You’ll want to enjoy the day, enjoy your outfit and feel great; and this only happens if you feel like YOU. So although this is an opportunity to make a bigger effort, don’t go OTT. Plus if your outfit is along the lines of something you’d usually wear, you are more likely to have other occasions to wear it again.
Accessories are a great way to elevate your look for a wedding. Wear a hat. Why not? And you needn’t spend a lot; you can rent or buy preloved. Charity shops are a brilliant source for hats and fascinators. And on the topic of renting… if you do require a rather fancy dress and would prefer not invest a small fortune for one outing; look at rental sites as they are a fantastic way to wear something truly special for a fraction of the cost.
