Rainbow hues are here to brighten up our outlook and our wardrobes and there is no bolder way to wear colour than head-to-toe by way of a two-piece Spring Suit.
In contrast to the current beige invasion, colour is firmly on the horizon this coming season. I have really embraced colour recently and it’s amazing how great it makes you feel! Aside from the lovely comments wearing colour always generates, the effect on your mindset is totally energising too.
A good investment
You don’t need me to tell you that a suit makes a worthwhile investment that will work hard for your wardrobe; either as two-piece or as separates. Whilst a suit is an obvious purchase for an office-based working woman; they are no longer just for the professionals and can be worn for everyday or weekend activities. I love to dress-down a suit with trainers but it’s equally fun to put on a pair of barely-there heels to vamp it up for a night out.
A great transitional outfit, a suit can be worn now while it’s still a bit chilly with a lightweight knit or roll neck underneath and with a t-shirt when it finally warms up. I think suits make a great solution for a Spring wedding too, especially if you want to stand out against the obvious wedding-y dresses.
Stylish
I recently met one of my style crushes, Emma Willis. I had a lovely conversation with her and she did not disappoint – such a warm, chatty lady who looked just as gorgeous IRL as she does on screen. It’s no surprise that Emma’s current collection for Next is highly focused on suits. Emma told me that she loves easy-to-wear boyish clothes and so a relaxed, two-piece suit is the perfect outfit for her. I tried on all the suits in Emma’s range for Next and I could have purchased them all – I especially loved the blue suit (main image & below). She also told me that her style crushes are Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney – both women who wear suits so well!
Colour ways
In terms of colour this season, the range veers from bold to pastel – so the choice is yours! Personally, I am drawn to the bolder crayola-colours of emerald green (what a surprise!) cobalt blue and canary yellow. But you may prefer the more subtle hues of lilac, pistachio green and blush pink.
I particularly love this green suit from Warehouse. The trousers are a great, flattering shape and I love the belt detail. Even better that it’s currently on sale!
Also on the Spring Suit agenda are stripes and checks – I am very taken with this check suit from ASOS – not everyone’s cup of tea!!
The edit
This linen-mix Spring Suit from Topshop would make a great outfit for a wedding. And I would definitely wear the blazer and trousers as separates.
Top Shop: Blazer £49 and Trousers £36
This stripe suit from River Island is likely to divide opinion, just like the check suit I tried from ASOS (above)… But I love this deckchair-type stripe as it’s so fresh and summery.
River Island: Blazer £60 and Trousers £40
Imagine the impact you’d make in a red suit! Normally fairly pricey… this suit is on sale at Boden!
Boden: Blazer £74.00 and Trousers £39.20
Another green suit! This one is by ASOS Design and comes in Tall sizes too.
ASOS: Blazer £50 and Trousers £32
I love the glamorous Riviera-look of this suit from River Island… the large buttons and wide-leg trousers give it a nautical feel. This copper colour looks great on warm skin tones.
River Island: Blazer £65 and Trousers £40
You can really change-up the look of a two-piece suit depending on how you style it. This one from Monsoon looks fab dressed-down but would easily pass as an elegant two-piece for a smart event if you add heels and statement accessories.
Monsoon: Blazer £70 and Trousers £55
OK, so who’s got the confidence to wear a yellow suit??? I just love this Zara one – surely the epitome of a Spring Suit! I would wear it to a wedding or an evening event. How about you?
Zara: Blazer 89.99 and Trousers 39.99
But if all this colour is just too much, but you still want to invest in a suit this season, then why not opt for my all-time favourite – a white tuxedo suit! It’s an eternal classic and the ultimate in sophistication. I love the one in the Emma Willis collection for Next. Obviously team with brighter accessories than I’m wearing below, and size down!
Next: Blazer £68 and Trousers £45
Hope you’ve enjoyed my Spring Suit Edit. I’ll be back soon with a new post, until then…
