Holiday packing. Every year I attempt to pack just the bear minimum. However each time my suitcase bulges with far too many outfits so that every occasion/weather/state of mind is covered and my baggage allowance is almost exceeded.
My recent holiday to Mexico was a case in point.
The cork wedges, the glam one-shouldered dress and anything more than feather-weight on my skin (as it was sooo hot) didn’t see the light of day.
I wore around a third of the clothes I packed!!!
As usual there was a clear wardrobe winner and one that I need to share with you as it’s a bargainous piece I picked up whilst grabbing last-minute suntan lotion in the supermarket.
…an oversized white shirt in a sheer fabric that cost a mere £8, from Asda!
Such a versatile item, I loved it and lived in it for much of my holiday. It was so bloody comfortable and just seemed to ‘fit’ with my mood, the environment and the heat! Taking me from poolside, to day trip, to evening dinner.
So it turns out (as it always does) that I could have travelled much lighter.
Loose, light-weight and bohemian-style clothes are my holiday mainstay. Nothing too dressy for evening. No heels. Just a pair of statement earrings for minimal glam factor.
Why on earth do I never learn? I need to revisit this post before my next holiday as a reminder not to over-pack!
I doubt I’m alone though…? Do you also pack too many clothes for your holiday and end up wearing the same few items like me?
What are your go-to holiday pieces?
As always I’d love to hear from you!

The thing is, you never know what that ‘one item’ will be – until you get there!
That’s very true Jo!
I am going to buy this shirt right now , as I am going to Thailand in a few weeks time. And this is just perfect for humid weather. Love your long skirt too.
The shirt-dress will be perfect for Thailand! Have a fab time Angela!x
Totally agree, but find husband TG is far worse than me. He has a pair of lightweight yellow chinos that have now travelled to several continents and still never been worn. Whenever I get the cases out, I find them in his ‘to go pile’ and no amount of persuasion will change his mind. X
He, he ? There is obviously some emotional connnecton to those yellow chinos!!! x
Always overpack but am getting better! For our weekend away wore everything apart from black jeans and two tops!! I was only away for four days! ??
Mmm… jeans & two tops still sounds like a large chunk of a weekend-away suitcase Helen!!! Thing is I get really annoyed if I haven’t packed something, get there & wish I’d bought it with me… ?
