One of the most popular trends at present is the boho blouse.
The insta-famous Next blouse (the first of my picks below) pops up on my feed almost daily and even the most edgy fashionistas are embracing this look.
Personally, I wasn’t quite sure at first… Anything ‘boho’ conjures up images of Sienna Miller, when she first came to our attention as Jude Law’s girlfriend, in her maxi skirts, tank tops and hipster belt. All a bit too dippy-hippy for me.
Having said that, several great fashion icons have worn a boho blouse (with attitude) over the decades from Jane Birkin and Bianca Jagger in the 70s; to Kate Moss in more recent years.
I am obviously warming to the trend as I bought this gorgeous, handmade top on my recent holiday in Mexico.
… and I have dug out this old AllSaints, white linen peasant top.
In order to avoid looking too bohemian, and keep the look as funky as possible, I like to team these pretty blouses with skinny, crop jeans (to balance out the billowy top half) and ankle boots or pointy flats.
The boho/folk/peasant blouse is ideal to wear right now whilst our weather decides if it wants to be warm or cold. On chillier days, just pop a base layer underneath. (I always pick up cheap, stretchy Tees from Primark for this purpose.)
Boho blouses in cotton or linen are great to take away on holiday as the cool, breezy fabric is perfect for protecting from the sun whilst heading to/from the beach or exploring cities. Plus they look great with shorts.
I am drawn to the bolder colour options (like the dark-blue one from Gap, below) and heavy embroidery, which are less girlie and more dramatic.
Here’s my pick from my most-favoured retailers…
