My last post was about chunky knits and I’m staying with roughly the same theme – well, in the fact that they are warm and cosy – cardigans! Yes, cardigans are having a fashionable moment again!
In our late teens or early twenties, we were probably never without a trusty cardigan. A grey, or dark-hued, long-length cardigan was almost uniform in the grungy 90s – literally a preppy, comfort blanket!
Big, chunky and in bold colours or texture; instead of blending into the background – this time around, cardigans are the statement piece.
The oatmeal cardigan I’m wearing in the main image is from H&M and although it’s no longer available online, I’ve seen it in my local branch reduced to a mere £10!!! That’s an incredible price, especially as it has generous pockets and is super soft.
I guess cardigans have become the cosy, winter equivalent of the summer hit; the kimono. Just like a kimono, cardigans look great over lighter layers and pair perfectly with denim.
No fashionista has been seen not rockin’ a uniform comprised of an oversized cardigan, boyfriend jeans and white trainers. For inspo, check out my Pinterest board: Cardigans
Many of the current styles of cardigan are coat-like; bulky and warm enough to be worn as an outer layer when the temperature allows.
Cardigans are obviously a sensible item to possess as the weather gets chillier. Longer in length and with ever-essential pockets, they look chic with jeans or leather-look trousers. Whilst shorter boxy-styles balance perfectly with midi skirts and culottes.
