Both spots and stripes were a key trend last year and they are set to be even bigger for SS18. What’s for sure, the spots have got bigger and the stripes have got bolder.
I have previously written posts on polka dots (read here) and stripes (read here), so I won’t bore you too much with my commentary!!!
What I love about both these patterns is that there is nothing ditsy about them, they are in-your-face, bold and gutsy. Just like the bright colours of the new season; these are clothes to make a statement in… and why not? 2018 is the year of the woman and dressing with confidence is something we can all aspire to, on a daily basis.
The High St retailers are awash with spots and stripes right now… but here’s just of few of my favourites…
Stripes
Stripes mean business and they work super well in a work environment, but are also fun for off-duty looks too. Come summer, stripes are sure to take on pastel, deckchair-colour tones, but right now, choose stripes in bold colour-ways and even combine stripe-on-stripes, or stripes-on-spots!!!

Spots
Bigger and bolder than ever before, polka dots will send us dotty this Spring. Wear spots in traditional monochrome (perfect to team with your white boots – have you succombed yet???) or other interesting colour-ways. They are elegant and chic and a favourite of heroines of 50s and 80s; Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana.

Many of you will have already bought items last year that nod to these trends, so be sure to get them out and wear this year too. Also check out the final sale reductions as you will find spots and stripes in the reduced sections (as suggested in my previous post). If you are in the mood to add some new spots and stripes to your SS18 wardrobe, then I hope I’ve provided a head start to your shopping!
As always, I’d love to know your thoughts, so please leave a comment below.
