In the midst of the festive season, I thought I’d squeeze in a post about boots. But not fancy heeled boots; boots made for walking. Because let’s face it, we need flat and comfy footwear for trudging around the shops on epic Christmas shopping trips or visits to Christmas fairs and the like!!!
You can’t not have noticed the recent trend for hiking boots made all the more of a must-have since Holly Willoughby’s daily appearance on the other side of the equator on “I’m a celebrity…” The Nanette boots by English shoemaker, Grenson have since sold out and now the high st stores are offering dupes which are selling like hotcakes.
I’m not a huge fan of hiking-style boots. For me they have their place – on a mountain!!! Neither am I a massive fan of Dr Martens; which are having another moment. Don’t get me wrong, Dr Martens look great on other people but I can’t get over their association with the skinhead and punk subcultures of the 70-80s or the grunge and goths of the 90s – and none of these were my ‘thing’. Don’t shoot me!!!
But I do love a chunky boot and I’m rather pleased with these boots I found on ASOS and got in the Black Friday sale with 20% discount. The side zip makes them super easy to get in and out – a big plus for me, I can’t be doing with undoing lots of laces! Despite their product name ‘Anarchy’ they sit in a safe, inoffensive place (in my book at least!)
I have talked a lot recently about high-low dressing both on here, on my Instagram feed and at the recent Club Forty Workshop…. and a chunky boot provides a great solution for dressing-down an otherwise ‘smart’ dress or whimsical outfit. Like trainers, chunky boots add necessary ‘edge’ and contrast to a floaty dress or sequin skirt. They also work really well with skinny jeans or jeggings.
Flat boots are in 3 main guises right now: lace-up, buckle boots or Chelsea boots. I think they have all been modelled by Holly in the jungle which means they are super on-trend now as Holly cannot seem to do any wrong… (although some of her outfits have left me completely bewildered!!?)
ASOS Arya Boots / New Look Rust Boots / Office Biker Boots £85 /M&S Fur-lined Boots
Carvela Scant Boots / Stradivarius Boots / Office Boots / ASOS Alissa Boots

Scroll through more shopping ideas below… but as a one-stop shop I recommend ASOS and their ASOS Design range for multiple styles of good quality, inexpensive, on-trend boots.
So what style of flat boot will you be wearing as you navigate the gift aisles and the Christmas queues? Which is your preference for wearing with your dresses and skirts to dress-down the outfit? As always, I’d love to hear from you!
Good luck with all the pre-Christmas craziness… stay cool and comfy!!! Until next time!
