My third and final look at summer dresses, brings us to occasion dresses.
In this post I’ve picked out dresses that would suit a save-the-date invitation; be it a wedding, graduation, a milestone birthday party, or an elegant daytime event… perhaps a day at the races.
It’s not often that we get to dress up (well, not me anyway!!!) So it’s always nice to treat yourself to a new frock… and you don’t have to break the bank doing so. On the other hand, you might want to spend a little extra, depending on the event…
Just as important as the dress, are the accessories. I am slightly OCD when it comes to coordinating shoes and bag – they don’t have to be entirely matchy-matchy, but there has to be a ‘link’.
First up is this new-in dress from Zara. Chinois print is a hot trend right now and I love the contrasting blue and rusty colours in this dress. Pick out one colour and highlight with your accessories.
This bold, one-shouldered dress from Warehouse would be sure to stand out from the crowd. I would team with either black accessories, or complementary nude tones.
This layered, red dress from Next has been a hit on Instagram. I would stick with the show-stopping colour and accessorise with red shoes and bag. Just be prepared for everyone singing that Chris de Burgh song!!
A white dress is a summer classic, although it’s still a no-no if you are a wedding guest! This lace, column dress from Marks and Spencer would be perfect for an outdoor event (ideally with no kids & sticky fingers in tow!!)
This beautiful dress from Zara is great if you are not keen on exposing your upper arms (always tricky when it comes to choosing summer dresses)…
I do love a prom-style dress, not that I own one. I think I am put off by looking too ‘frou-frou’. But this one by Little Black Dress (Alesha Dixon’s label) is pretty funky and definitely not too saccharine. I love the lace top paired with the bold stripes and florals on the skirt.
If you have some exciting invites in your diary this summer that require a glam frock, then I hope I’ve provided some inspiration.
Truth be told, I love the dressing up part just as much as the event itself!
I’d love to know what you have planned and if you have your outfit sorted… keep me posted!
