So lockdown maybe easing but if you are anything like me, you’ll be reluctant to propel yourself back into the world as we knew it. I am still very much attached to my home and my family unit and I can’t see my work or social activities returning to any kind of normality in the near future. This means that in terms of my wardrobe, what works for me right now is easy-to-wear, comfortable pieces. I gave up on joggers a while back – I think when the weather changed – and instead I am preferring to dress in something that I don’t have to think about too much, something I can grab and throw on…
The ideal solution for lockdown, especially now that the weather is really hotting up, is a jumpsuit. Summer jumpsuits tend to be wide-legged with easy, flowing fabrics and therefore perfect for hanging round the house or garden and equally fine for Zoom call. If it’s work call and you’re wearing one of the more relaxed holiday styles – just throw on a blazer and no-one will know you’ve just been enjoying a chapter of your book al fresco!! A utility jumpsuit can be glammed-up with some statement jewellery, offering that cool, slightly louche, don’t-mess-with-me French look.
A favourite item of mine, I have posted about jumpsuits many times before but someone will always comment about the challenge of going to the loo…!! C’mon it’s no big ordeal – we are all big girls now and really there is no difficulty in stripping to the waist down, especially in the comfort of your own home! But if peeing in a jumpsuit is still off-putting for you, then check out Leim who offer a range of stunning jumpsuit styles that don’t require de-robing for the toilet.
What often is a real challenge with a jumpsuit is finding the right fit for your shape. I always, without fail, size up in a jumpsuit. I have a long-ish body and always find a size bigger sits better on my frame and offers more comfort. As with jeans and dungarees, you have to try on various styles and sizes until you find the right one for you. Don’t be put off at the first hurdle as you will find one to suit – I promise!
A jumpsuit can add inches to your overall length and make you look slimmer – this is because a full column of fabric will draw the eye from the top to the bottom creating an elongating effect. A vertical line of buttons or stripes will add to the visual trick. Darker, block colours or patterns are brilliant at disguising lumps and bumps. Whilst wide-leg, floor sweeping trousers look incredibly chic and will not only add length, but also balance out wide hips and thighs. And don’t dismiss culotte-style legs as these are also flattering – just ensure that the hem sits on the most narrow part of your calf.
Here’s some various jumpsuit styles to consider which offer ideal lockdown style – a grab-and-go piece which doesn’t need require much thought.
Hopefully you’ve found some inspiration here for an alternative lockdown outfit – one that’s still easy and comfortable to wear but is a definite upgrade from joggers and a t-shirt!!
