Funny how I started off the season posting all manner of summer dresses with the excitement and anticipation of sweltering hot days and sultry evenings…
…and now I’m considering how to still wear those dresses and other summer purchases in our typical British Summer.
My most recent post (here) was about styling summer dresses with boots and this one is all about layering!
Layering is an obvious solution to maximise the wear of all those lovely summer pieces that were bought with such high hopes at the start of the Summer!
Here’s a few stylish tricks that will improve the cost-per-wear of your early summer purchases and keep the chill at bay…
First up, wear a dress over trousers.
I posted about this trend earlier this year (see here). And whilst it’s a relatively new (albeit resurrected) trend, it is set to stay. So it’s worth getting familiarised with this concept now, so that come A/W you are fully comfortable wearing a dress over trousers as it going to be BIG. The key to getting this look right is proportions.
Next, wear a sweatshirt or chunky knit over a summer dress or with your favourite floaty midi or maxi skirt.
And if a sweatshirt doesn’t work, then grab your warmest biker jacket – it’s a great contrast!
And finally, resurrect that 90s trend of layering a Tee under a dress or jumpsuit.
Popping a T-shirt under your strappy dress or jumpsuit is such an easy way to prolong the life of these summer pieces. It’s a hot trend right now, but one that is brilliantly practical too. I buy cheap-as-chips white Tees from Primark which do this job perfectly.
I’m still desperately hanging on to Summer, so these layering tricks are proving useful to me right now.
I hope I’ve offered some solutions on how to keep wearing Summer clothes as the weather gets chilly – but before we fully embrace the new season trends.
