It’s typical isn’t it… happens every year… The kids break up for the summer hols. and the weather changes for the worse.
Looking out from my desk as I write this post, the rain is slashing against the window and the sky is as grey and as bleak as can be. It looks more like October than August!
If you haven’t yet jetted off for your Summer hols. or if you are on a stay-cation or holidaying in the UK, then the bardot tops, maxi dresses and strappy sandals are currently surplus to requirements.
So what to wear in this dreary, muggy, wet weather?
Taking some inspiration from the fashionistas in the images taken from Pinterest below, I have pulled together a rather random selection of clothes that will serve well in our current August climate and many of them are reduced in the sales!
First up is of course a raincoat. The rain we had today was almost of biblical proportions, so a proper waterproof coat is necessary… and the brighter the better – it is Summer after all!!
Maxi lengths are a no-no in rainy weather as soggy bottoms will most definitely drag you down. Opt for a midi length dress which looks cool worn with trainers or a shoe-boot.
As the temperature is not cold, it’s worth still bearing your ankles whilst you can! So choose a cropped-length jean or this year’s favourite trouser; the culotte. They also work perfectly with all the shoe styles I have featured further down.
Now for footwear…
Trainers are a great option right now and pair perfectly with a midi dress or cropped length trouser. Or for a smarter look, a shoe-boot or closed-in block heel will protect against the wet and see you into Autumn too.
Depending on the severity of the rain, you might need to get the wellies out. In my opinion, they have to be Hunters. If you don’t already own a pair, they are a great investment. My last ones lasted 10 years! I found these Hunters on sale at ASOS. OFFICE has also reduced the shorter version in several colours.
So here’s hoping this weather improves and we can return to proper summer dressing…
We are planning a camping trip in a couple of weeks so it’ll be sods law that it rains for that. I’m definitely off to order one of the La Redoute wax jackets above (which come in several colours btw if yellow is a bit too sunshine for you!)
Hope you are having a great Summer whatever you are up to!
Until next time…
