Although it pains me that the summer hols are almost at an end (how fast did those weeks fly by??!!)… I can’t help but get excited about Autumn and all the gorgeous new clothes and accessories bursting out of the glossy / online magazines and social media pages.
I love the change in seasons – coats, knits, boots and gorgeous autumnal colours are something I look forward to every year, along with dark evenings, roaring fires, hearty dinners and Strictly!!!
So here’s my first look at the trends for AW17.
One of the key colours for the coming season is red. But not just any red… so-called ‘power’ red!
I read somewhere that red often becomes a prominent fashion colour after a period of social/political/economic unrest – as it is reactionary, positive and empowering. So its dominance on the AW17 catwalks is perhaps no coincidence, given the various turmoils across the globe.
Literally top-to-toe red is the way to go for those bold enough to carry it off. Or clashing red with pink, berry and even lilac tones will be a key look for the new season.
So a dress, top or jacket in block red might not be my first choice, but I’m keen to dip in to the trend with a pair of red trousers or boots!
These tassle, kick-flare trousers from Top Shop are fun, especially for a night out! I would weat them with black, flat mules and a statement black top.
There are lots of red boots around right now. I like these suede ones from Top Shop; they would look great with a floral dress or cropped jeans.

Love red but not always feeling ‘red’ but have a lovely old pair of red skinny jeans that have come out recently. Don’t think they’re Power Red.
Those miss selfridge trousers are lovely!!
I know what you mean Helen, you do have to be in the mood to wear red. But when you do, it is a very uplifting colour to wear! You should just do it! X
I’m obsessed with red, it’s so powerful and dynamic! Love this post x
Wearing red certainly does impact your mood… I’ve got more into it since writing this post – even just bought a red blazer from Primark! Thanks so much for reading Vicki!
I’m not sure about power red! However, it does go with the massive amounts of grey and black wear I have… so that’s something. Will have a play in the changing rooms and see how I feel. Thanks for the heads up!
You are right Jane – it’s a great colour injection to bring your staples up-to-date! X
I love red! I have a summer red dress that I drag out every year for work and it still gets compliments, it does encourage a positive mindset. Strange tho I only wear red for work! I like the idea of some skinny jeans…
